چکیده

At present, all value at risk (VaR) implementations ± i.e., all risk measures of thè`maximum loss at a given level of con®dence'' type ± are based on the assumption that the portfolio mix will not change before the VaR horizon. This hypothesis may be unrealistic, especially when the VaR horizon is established by the regulators (BIS). At the opposite, we measure VaR dynamically, i.e., taking into consideration portfolio mix adjustments over time: adjustments do not occur continuously, since they are costly. We allow both optimal rebalancing policies, which entail changing the portfolio mix whenever it is too far from the optimal one, and suboptimal policies, which mean adjusting at pre-®xed dates. We show that in both cases usual VaR measures underestimate portfolio losses, even if the underlying returns are normal. We study the dependence of the misestimate on the VaR horizon, the initial portfolio mix and the risk aversion of the portfolio manager, which in turn determines the frequency of interventions. The bias can be more relevant over one day than over longer horizons and even if the initial portfolio is nearly optimal. We also perform backtesting and estimate a ``coherent'' risk measure, namely conditional VaR, which con®rms the inappropriateness of the usual, static VaR.

Optimal Portfolio Selection for Tehran Stock Exchange Using Conditional, Partitioned and Worst-case Value at Risk Measures

This paper presents an optimal portfolio selection approach based on value at risk (VaR), conditional value at risk (CVaR), worst-case value at risk (WVaR) and partitioned value at risk (PVaR) measures as well as calculating these risk measures. Mathematical solution methods for solving these optimization problems are inadequate and very complex for a portfolio with high number of assets. For t...

Financial Risk Modeling with Markova Chain

Investors use different approaches to select optimal portfolio. so, Optimal investment choices according to return can be interpreted in different models. The traditional approach to allocate portfolio selection called a mean - variance explains. Another approach is Markov chain. Markov chain is a random process without memory. This means that the conditional probability distribution of the nex...

Optimal Portfolio Allocation based on two Novel Risk Measures and Genetic Algorithm

The problem of optimal portfolio selection has attracted a great attention in the finance and optimization field. The future stock price should be predicted in an acceptable precision, and a suitable model and criterion for risk and the expected return of the stock portfolio should be proposed in order to solve the optimization problem. In this paper, two new criterions for the risk of stock pr...

Robust Portfolio Optimization with risk measure CVAR under MGH distribution in DEA models

Financial returns exhibit stylized facts such as leptokurtosis, skewness and heavy-tailness. Regarding this behavior, in this paper, we apply multivariate generalized hyperbolic (mGH) distribution for portfolio modeling and performance evaluation, using conditional value at risk (CVaR) as a risk measure and allocating best weights for portfolio selection. Moreover, a robust portfolio optimizati...
